The Book IS Better

i am, or at least was, quite an avid reader. i have always enjoyed reading a book prior to seeing the movie version. it is interesting to see another person's interpretation of a piece of work. some of these come out well and some of them are quite abysmal as directors are forced to cut the books down and leave out portions, chapters or even entire characters. irregardless it is nearly impossible to find pieces where after watching the movie i didn't almost immediately say, "the book was better." this is still surprising to me because it does include some incredible movie-book combos such as Fight Club. i am still truely impressed with that movie and it remains one of my favorites yet even still the book was better to me. that movie was so well done and really did stay quite accurate with the book, which is an impressive feat given the disconnected and entertaining writing style of it.

even if the book is better i can still be satisfied with a movie based on a book. i do remember however at one point that i was able to think of three examples of movies that were actually better than the book. i have since forgotten those but i do continue to try to remember what they were. i hope to someday remeber them so that i can rewatch and possibly even reread them. irregardless the point of this post is i guess to encourage more people to read. i am forcing my girlfriend to read the Harry Potter novels because i am refusing to take her to the newest movies unless she reads them first. i know she will enjoy the books more and it at least encourages her to expand her literacy. in the long run it is the best thing that can happen. more kids need to read. it is ridiculous to see the illiteracy that is taking over this nation as children succumb to television day in and day out. make your kids read. honestly. punish them if they don't. it will be way better for them and will do a world of good in their future. make them do it.

Max Out

my friends and i try to stay in shape. im pretty dedicated to exercising so i work out pretty often. i like to run and bike and whatnot but i do a lot of upper body strength training. it is a great release and stress channel so it helps me out a lot. last night it was time for a bench press max out and i joined the ranks of the elite. i broke my own record and achieved something i have always wanted to do. i maxed out my own weight. that's right. i can bench press myself. not many other people can claim this but is was able to put my weight on the bar and get it up. i was truly impressed and proud of myself because most people will never be able to do this in their lifetime. i know what you are thinking. i am just some muscleheaded douche who is a gym rat. nope. then surely i am just an ex athlete football jock stupid head. nope. well then you must just be a huge guy who happens to be able to lift more than it looks. nope. i really am just a normal guy who is proud of how im doing right now. i feel like hot stuff and women should be begging me to date them cuz of how awesome i am. just kidding, im not that smug. or am i? no im not.

with america in the way it is with severely high rates of obesity and complete unhealthiness i feel i am entitled to a little bit of mode for being a health conscious person at my age. i plan on sustaining it and by looking at my father and close relatives i know it is possible for me to stay fit, healthy and attractive for quite a while. if anybody sounds interested dont let me know.

Olympics

the other day i found myself indulging in one of the most manly things one can do. myself and two of my guy friends were sitting on the couch together alternating between watching womens gymnastics and mens rowing. it was possibly the first time i have actually been able to say i had genuine interest of either sport. we actually were able to converse and provide commentary on two of these terrible sports. it was a truly a spectacle to witness as our girlfriends were in the other room talking about whatever and the three of us were yelling from the other room how exciting it was to see the chinese twelve year old gymnast fall during her routine therefore ensuring that she would not be medalling in that event. the manliness was oozing out of the room.

somehow, had we combined figure skating, appletinis, and gossip of fashion into this mix i believe the earth would have been crushed from existence under the shear manliness of that experience. either way it was certainly an interesting night as i will now be able to invite my friends over to watch more of the ridiculous olympic competitions over the next few weeks. hopefully we can make a night out of watching synchronized swimming, badminton, chess and all the other non sportish events this year.

Fun Money

i find myself with the two biggest credit card bills i have ever had over the last two months. im not gonna be ignorant and blame most of it on gasoline although it did probably add fifty bucks or so. either way it isnt gas that is killing me lately, it is fun. fun is so expensive. it sucks that in order to have a good time one must be willing to shell out dollar after dollar to consistently be entertained. it adds up quick when you find yourself going out quite a bit for a few months and realizing your charging a few bucks every night. all the various goods and services that have entertaining value are going up in price. movie tickets and food prices seem to be higher than i can imagine. either way im trying to accept that enjoying yourself is expensive.

i guess there are a few things out there that are still free and entertaining. for one thing i would save myself an enormous amount of money if my girlfriend and i just stayed in and had sex every night. sex is still free for most people, especially those with girlfriends so i urge everybody to indulge in some great free sex with someone you love. i now have a great argument that im just trying to save us money by seducing her each night. hopefully it works but given the fact that my girlfriend has plenty of money right now she'll probably just turn me down so that she can take me out and buy me a delicious sandwich that i will enjoy so that we can come home later and have sex when we are tired from the night and have already spent sixteen dollars that we easily could have saved by just staying home and doing it in the first place. although i do get an awesome sandwich and some sex anyway so maybe her decision is better anyway. okay iv decided to go the sandwich and sex route and just continue to do that. i guess its not as bad as i thought.

The Flounder

every group has one, everybody knows one, some people even are one: the flounder. every group has a bottom feeder. they are person that somehow got into a group even though nobody likes them. they are the one that gets ripped on the most, they are the one that freeloads the most, they are the one that everybody would easily leave behind if they had the chance to. every group has a flounder. it is an unavoidable aspect to having a group of friends. there has to be one that nobody likes. the best part is that each person thinks that someone else in the group likes them or was originally friends with them. each person thinks that it was someone else in the group who was somehow the flounder's "in." when this topic somehow comes up after a few months of people not liking the flounder its always the same reaction. every person shrugs their shoulders and says "i thought he knew you" or "wtf man hes not my friend."

sometimes this can be one of the best experiences a group of friends can go through. the actual conversation where they realize that everyone thinks the flounder sucks and the upcoming week or two to treat the person like total crap until they get the point. its hilarious to witness some of the events that take place. everybody ignores the flounder, insults the person without any reason and laughs as the flounders face contorts under the emotional damage that is being done to them. the rejection is relentless yet the rest of the group relishes in it.

what would be truely amazing is if the flounders of every group formed together to make their own group. this would be awesome because there would then be a flounder among the flounders. to actually be this person would be some sort of horribly amazing treat. the ridiculous negativity would cancel out and this person would probably become one of the coolest people ever. i feel like i have known a person like this. he was hilarious in every act he made and was continuously ridiculed from everyone. simply being in his presence made everyone feel better by comparison and he was continuously cast from group to group as he floundered his way through variuos schools of fish. somehow after a few years of this he became rather popular and has had some success in years of late. it is funny to trace his line through high school and where he lies now. perhaps if his rap career goes well you will all get the chance to hear about him some day.

Wikipedia: The Haven

i keep surprising myself how often i use wikipedia. here i'll be at work trying to distract myself when my mind will wander onto something i am familiar with but don't quite know what it is. bam! wikipedia. so far wikipedia has only failed me once in searching for something i need some information on. otherwise, it has quite an extensive archives that continues to grow. while some people criticize it because it is unreliable and written by amateurs i find myself attracted to it because of that. everyone can seem like an expert by just throwing something they heard into the mix of balogna that is posted on the web. at least on wikipedia it is gathered and organized in a reasonable fashion. its good to see other people throw together the small source of uncited information they happen to think they know on a topic.

i love being able to find random trivia with a jumbled mini biography, plot analysis or description of some minute subject matter. that being said it is time for this blog to be posted on wikipedia. i am going to go to wikipedia and create an article for Bored at Work. hopefully all goes smoothly and it will be posted as soon as possible. this article is gonna be awesome. make sure you and everybody you know checks it out.

Birthday Suit

i have an upcoming birthday and dont know what to ask for. yea of course there is the potential of wanting a wii or a ps3 or some sort of new technology. however, i just got a new phone, my house has a 360 and my computer still works fine. well see what happens but at this point the only things i have to ask for my bday are a new bedspread and the usual socks and underwear. otherwise im coming up with nothing else. one thing i have always wanted is a suit. i would love to have a suit. i love wearing a suit. i love nice suits. they are legit and it would be sweet to have one. however my girlfriend reminded me that i already have a birthday suit. would this also be considered a birthday suit? do i need a new birthday suit? what's wrong with my current birthday suit? (nothing)

although a new suit would be sweet i really cant justify getting a suit for my birthday. i have only had a wear a suit about twice. in both cases a looked and felt awesome but it just wouldnt make sense to get a new suit that i dont need. either way, im stumped for birthday present ideas. hopefully i find something that i need before i end up gaining another year without reaping the benefits of one of the two times per year i can get pretty much anything i want for free. so until further i think of other presents i will be receiving a plethora of socks and underwear and a new bedspread. sounds good.
