i am, or at least was, quite an avid reader. i have always enjoyed reading a book prior to seeing the movie version. it is interesting to see another person's interpretation of a piece of work. some of these come out well and some of them are quite abysmal as directors are forced to cut the books down and leave out portions, chapters or even entire characters. irregardless it is nearly impossible to find pieces where after watching the movie i didn't almost immediately say, "the book was better." this is still surprising to me because it does include some incredible movie-book combos such as Fight Club. i am still truely impressed with that movie and it remains one of my favorites yet even still the book was better to me. that movie was so well done and really did stay quite accurate with the book, which is an impressive feat given the disconnected and entertaining writing style of it.
even if the book is better i can still be satisfied with a movie based on a book. i do remember however at one point that i was able to think of three examples of movies that were actually better than the book. i have since forgotten those but i do continue to try to remember what they were. i hope to someday remeber them so that i can rewatch and possibly even reread them. irregardless the point of this post is i guess to encourage more people to read. i am forcing my girlfriend to read the Harry Potter novels because i am refusing to take her to the newest movies unless she reads them first. i know she will enjoy the books more and it at least encourages her to expand her literacy. in the long run it is the best thing that can happen. more kids need to read. it is ridiculous to see the illiteracy that is taking over this nation as children succumb to television day in and day out. make your kids read. honestly. punish them if they don't. it will be way better for them and will do a world of good in their future. make them do it.
